A Hospice Home

For Onslow County

Approximately half of the deaths which occur in Onslow County NC involve people needing hospice care. The nearest hospice facility is an hour’s drive from Jacksonville NC.

Onslow Caregivers’, an all-volunteer organization, is raising funds with community involvement for a proposed Hospice House in Onslow County that will also serve Craven, Jones and Pender counties in NC.

Our Fundraising Goal

While the estimated construction cost to build a 6 to 7,000 square foot medical facility is $2.5 million, as we secure our site and finalize our plans to build, we have set a fundraising goal of $3.5 million to cover increasing construction material costs, construction of a fully-furnished turnkey facility and provide for ongoing maintenance.

Our Mission

Why we do this

The mission of Onslow Caregivers, Inc. is to assure that patients in-home health care and hospice programs in Jacksonville and Onslow do not suffer additionally because they cannot obtain needed services, support or materials, such as food, medicine, transportation, shelter and specific medical needs such as Hospice House terminal care.

Our Plans

Plans for the hospice house include suites for patients and will offer the comfort of home and extensive support for families, friends, and caregivers.

The 6,700 square-foot planned facility will include family rooms for privacy, fireplace, children’s playroom, family kitchen and dining room, gardens, chapel, and a conference room. Each suite will include a private bath, sleeper sofa, and covered sun porch. Professional caregivers will provide 24-hour care needed during a patient’s final days. Construction is planned to begin in 2023. The building site is the old Ragazzi’s on Hwy. 24 in Jacksonville.

Even in the best of circumstances, facing end-of-life issues can be difficult for patients, families, and loved ones. Facing them alone or in times of financial hardship makes it even harder. Providing a Hospice House will not only provide comfort and support but will also help soften the blow for those who find themselves in the most challenging and frightening circumstances.

We referred to our goal as a ‘Hospice House’, but when it is completed, it will be a ‘Hospice Home’.
